Using pool safety nets
Pool safety nets are a kind of cover that stretches tightly across the top of a pool. They are available for above ground and inground units. In most cases pool nets do not actually touch the water but rest over it. The idea is that if a child, pet or even wild animal were to fall into the pool, the net would keep them from submerging and drowning. Newer versions are often a mesh instead of a traditional net. Pool safety nets are popular with many homeowners because they are relatively inexpensive and easy to use (particularly when compared to a vinyl pool cover). However, many require a series of anchors be placed along the edge of the deck and they can entangle small children and animals.
Are pool nets alternatives to fences?
Many homeowner want to know if pool nets are safe alternatives to child safety gates, pool fences and other pool safety products. Although these nets will make otherwise unprotected pools safer, a properly designed and installed fence will keep children and animals (except for birds) well away from the water. Also, if local ordinance requires a fence often a net or cover is not a satisfactory substitute. Many experts believe that pool safety gates and fences are the best way to protect children from wandering into a pool area.
Pool safety gates and fences
Once installed, a fence does not need to be removed and replaced every time you want to swim. You merely walk through the gate and make sure it is closed. Although many people feel that having a fence in their yard will be an inconvenience, quality removable fences, such as those manufactured by Baby Guard, are available that can be removed and rolled up for storage. An added advantage of fences is that pool safety gates can be locked and keep out uninvited guests wishing to swim without your knowledge or permission.
